If you write a book, is it your property in perpetuity? Can you control how and when it is distributed? What about a software program? Rand would say that without property rights, no other rights are possible. Let’s reexamine that claim. Is copyright really a right or just a means of suppressing the free speech rights of others? Our presenter, Gavin, will represent his understanding of the Free Software Foundation’s viewpoint on this topic.

When: Sunday, April 19th, 11am
Where: White Horse Tavern116 Brighton Ave. Allston, MA
Why:  Because bacon makes everything better

For those who don’t have time to read my document, I will summarize it : Enforcement of intellectual property will become so difficult due to technological advances that extreme measures will be required. The war on drugs will look like a picnic compared with the level of government violence necessary to control ‘illegal’ information flows. It would be better to abandon coercive methods of protecting IP than to institute a global police state to ’save’ it.  ~Gavin
